Crying Baby

Your baby can't talk. Crying is how babies communicate with you. The secret is how to identify what a crying baby is trying to tell you. Baby books have much advice on the possible causes of crying babies:

1. Hunger
2. Too Hot
3. Too Cold
4. Tiredness
5. Wet Diaper
6. Stress
7. Needs Affection

Baby books tell us that a crying baby will actually sound differently depending on what she needs. You may quickly be able to identify what your baby is trying to tell you by listening to the sound, frequency, intensity of the baby crying.

If you have a newborn baby picking her up to reassure her is always a good idea when she cries. You can quickly rule out the bottom two items on the list by doing that. The next step is to check the diaper, then see if your baby is hungry. Trial and error will often help you to determine what cry means what. Also, you should pay attention to the time of day. Your baby is more likely to be hungry around feeding time. More likely to be tired around nap time.

Colic

If your baby is crying very intensely, often turning red in the face with her legs curled up, she could be suffering from colic. Some baby books believe colic could be caused by overfeeding, underfeeding, or a bad reaction to formula or baby food. Other baby books tell you that the cause is not known. In any case, it is not fun for your baby or for you.

You can try some of the following to help with colic: Walking your baby, playing soft music, taking your baby for a ride in the car, walking her, or feeding her.

If the colic becomes really bad or lasts for more than a day or two it's a good idea to talk to your health care provider just in case.

Dealing with a Crying Baby

Having a constantly crying baby can stress you out. Instinct causes you to want to deal with the problem. It's programmed into you. If you can't fix it, you will become stressed. Not just that, it can really interfere with your sleep patterns too.

Baby books recommend that you deal with a crying baby by taking turns with your partner. Make sure one of you gets a good night sleep every second or third night at least. Try to relax and not to let it stress you out. If it is your night off think about using earplugs or put some soft music on.

Our baby book store has many books that could help you deal with a crying baby or a baby with colic
